Each unique creation is a dialogue between material and light

coming together to animate space.

About the Artist

Art is my spiritual practice. It's an expression of a lifelong passion for the natural world, sacred exploration, and dancing on the thresholds of existence. As a lifelong multimedia artist, I have worked in many mediums, but ever since discovering the simple elegance of light sculptures, they have completely captured my imagination.

I love testing the limits of what is possible with these simple materials.  To me they simultaneously evoke a quiet stillness with an evocative sense of organic movement.

My inspiration

My art is deeply influenced by the majesty of the natural world. Curving forms and windswept flowing lines remind me of the quiet beauty I find in wild places.

I love using negative space as the primary tool for shaping form. I construct flowing openness allowing light and shadow to define the structure as much as the physical elements themselves. The sculptures emerge through what is left untouched, where light can expand past the boundaries created and animating the surrounding space.

About the process

Each piece begins by quietly percolating in my mind. When the sculpting finally begins the materials drive the process, time melts away and my whole brain lights up until the skeleton of a new being stands before me. Then the long, meditative process of applying the paper begins. Strip by strip of painting on fine tissue paper, life gets breathed into each creation.

Each piece represents between 20 and 80 hours of painstakingly detailed work. There are approximately 10 layers of paper on each piece, making them surprisingly strong.  Each piece uses quality UL listed electrical components and cool temperature LED lights.

I am drawn to the endless potential of the simple materials I work with and the quiet alchemy that occurs in the act of sculpting empty space.

When they are complete, they come to life, each with unique personality and presence.
